Rainbands of the SouthEast Asian Summer Monsoon
Inez Fung, University of California Berkeley,

The concept of the "Asian summer monsoon" masks the existence of two separate summer rainfall regimes: convective storms over India, Bangladesh and Nepal (the South Asian summer monsoon) and banded rainfall over China, Japan and Korea (East Asian summer monsoon). Here we focus on the East Asian summer monsoon, and present analysis of its precipitation variability over the past 50 years. Emphasis will be placed on the role of the jet stream downstream of the Tibetan Plateau in the seasonal northward migration of rainbands.
