Principles of and modern developments in instrumentation used in chemistry and chemical analysis. Topics include: optical spectroscopy, fourier transform spectroscopy, light and optics, lasers, mass spectrometry, vacuum methods, surface science techniques, x-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, acoustics, materials characterization, chromatography, sensors, probability, statistics and error analysis. This course meets the Ch major option requirement for either waves (Ph2a) or an advanced elective.
