Postdoctoral Positions

Chong Lab Postdoctoral Research Fellows
Job Description:
The laboratory of Shasha Chong in the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral research fellows to join after August 1, 2021. The Chong lab investigates transcriptional control mechanisms in the context of physiology and disease, including cancer and diabetes. We are particularly interested in elucidating the roles of intrinsically disordered protein regions in transcriptional regulation, which do not fold into well-defined 3D protein structures but mediate many functionally critical biomolecular interactions.
The postdoctoral fellows will work in a highly interdisciplinary environment at the intersection of biology, chemistry, and physics. We develop quantitative single-cell and single-molecule imaging methods and combine them with molecular biology, biochemical, genetic, proteomic, and bioinformatic approaches in our research. More information about Dr. Shasha Chong and research in the lab can be found on the lab website: https://www.schonglab.com.
Qualifications:
The applicant must have received, or be scheduled to receive, a Ph.D. in biophysics, biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, or other related fields by the start of the appointment. A strong record of research productivity is required. Experience in one or more of the following techniques is a plus, but not required: CRISPR-mediated genome-editing, in vitro or live-cell single-molecule optical imaging, quantitative image analysis, computer programming, protein purification, proximity-based labeling, and quantitative mass spectrometry.
How to apply:
Interested applicants should email Dr. Shasha Chong (schong@caltech.edu) a CV and a description of past research experience and future research interests. Following an initial screening of these application materials, appropriate candidates will be contacted by email for letters of reference. Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled.
Semlow Lab Postdoctoral Scholar
Postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Daniel Semlow in the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology. The Semlow lab is broadly interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms of DNA damage and repair. We are seeking motivated fellows that will undertake biochemical, genetic, and analytical approaches to elucidate novel pathways in DNA repair. At Caltech, fellows will contribute to an outstanding intellectual environment and enjoy access to state-of-the-art resources and facilities.
Candidates should have a PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry or related field and strong record of research productivity. Experience in CRISPR/Cas9 screening or mass spectrometry is a plus, but not required.
Interested applicants should send a CV with a summary of research interests and contact information for three references to Dr. Daniel Semlow (dsemlow@caltech.edu).
